Our Automotive Structures team designs, develops, and produces Crash Management Systems and body structure components for some of the most exciting vehicles on the road today, including the Ford F-150, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Constellium Van Buren is a state-of-the-art production facility which produces customized aluminium automotive structures and Crash Management Systems for our OEM customers, and features advanced development and prototyping capabilities. Opened in 2014, Van Buren was expanded in 2015, as the plant manufacturing capacity doubled and its prototype capabilities were enhanced. Located in the heart of the automotive industry in metro Detroit, the plant works closely with our OEM customers and suppliers to ensure our products meet precise performance specifications.
Process Engineer Co-Op/Intern
$20-25/hour
Responsibilities
The Van Buren Process Engineer Intern will assist the Plant Process Engineers on key projects to be completed in a timely matter.
In this role, the following are the key areas of responsibility:
- Utilize AutoCAD to develop facility layout drawings of production and support areas.
- Conduct studies and propose improvements to the overall process flow and spatial utilization based on Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Provide assistance with evaluating ergonomics and safety within the Manufacturing operations.
- Perform time studies on Manufacturing machines and cells to evaluate bottlenecks and areas for improvements.
- Audit Preventive Maintenance on machines and cells to help determine effectiveness of the PMs utilizing plant production film strips.
- Preform studies on consumable Tooling and assist on documenting the tooling into a tooling data base.
- Audit Production work instructions to ensure that they are up to date and are in the quality system
- Assist in Quality audits and documentation for the TS system.
Qualifications
- Completion of 2 + years coursework toward an Engineering Science Major or Concentration.
- Strong Problem solving skills.
- Self-motivated organized individual who requires minimal supervision in completing assigned tasks
- Good communication skills both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate to all business stakeholders, from production operator, up to plant management level.
- Able to use Auto Cad software to layout equipment and process flows.
Structure for Opportunities
- Duration – 3-month summer internship
- Flexible start and finish, $500/month housing stipend for candidates who live 50+ miles away
- Requirements – rising Sophomore or Junior, Mechanical/Metallurgical Engineering majors
